At NewPointe we believe the family is crucial. Nothing makes more impact in the development of a person than his or her family. In turn, those individuals are the ones who shape the culture and the world. As I watched the Hall of Fame Inductions this past weekend, I was amazed at how many of these star athlete inductees have come from broken, dysfunctional homes, with lives shaped by trauma. This last week, the media gave much attention to Lebron James’s I PROMISE school, a school he has fashioned and dedicated because of the trauma he experienced as a young child. Very different than most, Lebron has had the ability and passion to take his hard times and turn them into motivation to help young people who grow up in similar situations.
I know that we are getting ready to send our kids back to school so they can learn reading, writing, arithmetic, and the essentials for a degree, but home is where they really learn how to do life. Home is the place where the skills for handling life well are either learned or missed. This is not a task we can delegate to anyone else. We must take responsibility for it.
At NewPointe, we love the church and work hard on our kids’ environments and programs. But at the end of the day, we believe that what happens at home is far more important than what happens at church. No one has more potential to influence your kids than you—their dad or mother. We believe that as parents we are called to be the spiritual Leaders—that’s Leader with a capital L. There’s nothing little or casual about this role. We want to do everything we can to support and equip you for it. In addition, we understand the pressures and challenges of being a parent.
That leads to the second part of our strategy. We believe it is very important to have another adult speaking the same truths into your child’s life and heart that YOU say and believe. You need reinforcement: someone on your team who doesn’t have the responsibility to discipline them but can influence them as a respected adult.
This month, at all of our five locations, we are emphasizing the strategy that we have in place to help you. We are working to help you be able and confident, training your children to develop a vibrate faith and a deep personal relationship with Christ. That is exactly what they need to carry them through every season of life—no matter how challenging or rewarding. I hope you will stop by the display. If you learn the vision and strategy, you will be able to take full advantage of it.
By the way, I know of no greater investment one person can make than in the next generation. I challenge you to seriously consider becoming involved in Family Life Ministry. I have seen this to be true over and over: When we invest in the things that are most important to God, He takes personal notice of the things that matter to us.
“A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. . . but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
